"I would be willing to "shut down" government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security", the president tweeted, "which includes the Wall!"

In an interview with Johnson Sunday, CBS "Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan asked about President Donald Trump's tweet earlier in the day threatening a government shutdown if Congress didn't approve more funding for a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border, among other demands. He did acknowledge, however, that the border funding issue was unlikely to be resolved before the November midterm elections. President Trump tweeted. "Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT!".

Trump's threatened government shutdown would come as spending authorization runs out again at the end of the current fiscal year at the end of September, about five weeks before nationwide congressional elections on November 6. "And that's the primary concern", Ryan said Wednesday on Fox News.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said lawmakers were considering an appropriations measure seeking an additional $5 billion for the wall.
