Most of England was in the grip of a heat wave over the past two months and it seemed like the Indians would get to start the Lord's Test with conditions similar to the sub-continent.

They have gone onto lose three Tests and managed to draw a couple of matches against Asian teams at the historic ground since then.

Supporters were left frustrated at Lord's on Thursday as the rain washed out the first day of the second Test between England and India.

The English summer was at its peak, the sun was beating down hard all this while but come the Test series and the clouds are out. However, there is more rain forecast for this weekend and as such this match could see routine rain breaks. The covers were up all the morning today and the toss was delayed and before the conditions could improve it started to drizzle. England had a forced change as Ben Stokes is busy with his court hearing and unavailable for the game while middle-order batsman Dawid Malan was dropped following a poor show at Edgbaston. England might have settled on one of their two selectorial decisions, the other will be decided on the first morning, a straight shootout between Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes, with Jamie Porter released from the original squad of 13.

For the second spinner's slot, there will be an interesting battle between Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. India have not announced their playing XI but skipper Virat Kohli had said that he was tempted to play a second spinner. Even after lunch, there was no respite from the rain and it went on throughout the afternoon. They can also be made captains.

Eventually, the day was called off at 10:30 PM IST.
