  • Why There’s Still No Warrant Out for Dallas Cop Who Killed Man in His Apartment

The officer, a five-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave.

The chief said it isn't clear what "the interaction was between her and the victim".

On Thursday evening, a police officer entered an apartment in the South Side Flats complex on South Lamar Street in Dallas, Texas, and subsequently shot and killed a man she may have believed to be an intruder.

His uncle, Ignatius Jean, said the killing has devastated the family and left it searching for answers.

At the vigil Saturday, hundreds gathered to remember Jean, a man who one person said had "a captivating smile". Perez got out of a auto and became combative with Guyger and another officer. "The very Bible says to render to Caeser that which is Caeser so if Ceaser says to pay a penalty for a life. then she has to pay".

Guyger was not charged in the case.

"At the very early stages of this investigation - initial indications were that they were what we consider circumstances of an officer-involved shooting", Hall said. "We would like the name of the officer to be released publicly and we would like the district attorney to act swiftly and give us immediate charges".

Rawlings said today that the Texas Rangers Division has taken over the investigation into the Thursday night shooting death of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean.

August labor report: 201,000 more jobs, and pay keeps pace
Hiring in the construction sector and in professional services helped the economy to add 201,000 jobs last month. Job gains in August were nearly across all sectors, though manufacturing payrolls fell by 3,000.

Lee Merritt, one of the lawyers representing Botham Jean's family, revealed in a news conference on September 8 that the family has no evidence that Jean knew Guyger.

After the officer shot Jean late on Thursday at the end of her work shift, she called emergency services and told responding officers that she thought she had entered her own apartment.

Todd and Debbie Gentry drove to Dallas on Friday and picked up Botham Jean's mother at the airport.

On Saturday, the Texas Rangers, which is now handling the investigation, chose to postpone pursuing a warrant against Guyger "until they could follow up on information that they received from the interview with the officer", the Dallas Police Department said.

Jean, Rawling said, "was exactly the sort of citizen we want to have in the city of Dallas".

He says he spoke Saturday with Gov. Greg Abbott, who promised that the Rangers will ensure "justice will be served".

"Somebody has to be insane not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment", Allie Jean said. "Based on that interview, they asked us to hold off on the warrant until they had an opportunity to investigate some of the information that was provided during that interview", said Chief Hall.

"Right now, there are more questions than answers", Hall said.

Major quake strikes off Fiji, poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii
New Zealand's Emergency Management Ministry said there was no tsunami threat to New Zealand following the natural disaster . An quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 hit central Ecuador late on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

Authorities have said the officer is white, but have not released her name or other details about her.

"We believe the fact that that has not happened yet is a reflection on deferential treatment for law enforcement officers", Merritt said.

The St Lucian government issued a statement expressing "shock" at the killing and said officials at its embassy in the U.S. would provide assistance to the family. He was taken to the hospital and died a short time later.

As a result of the information above, an arrest warrant is being obtained for the officer involved in this incident.

Jean's mother, Allison, suggested in an interview on Friday that her son might still be alive if he was white.

Allison Jean in comments Friday broadcast by Dallas TV station KXAS questioned whether the off-duty officer would have reacted differently if she encountered a white man.

In the May 2017 incident, Guyger was trying to identify a woman in a auto when another passenger got out and took her taser, police said in the release. So far, they have drawn the officer's blood to test for alcohol or drugs and they are in the process of getting a warrant for manslaughter.

Manslaughter Warrant Issued for Officer Who Killed Botham Jean
It's unclear, however, how the officer managed to confuse the two apartments and why she apparently fired her weapon at the man. Police issued a news release Friday saying the shooting happened Thursday night at an apartment complex at 1210 South Lamar.
