Bob Woodward: Anonymous NY Times Op-Ed 'Too Vague'

  • Anonymous official cites Trump ‘amorality’ in NY Times op-ed

Woodward, whose new book Fear: Trump in the White House hits bookstores on Tuesday, described the incident in the interview with CBS as the most risky moment of Trump's nuclear standoff with North Korea, the news agency said.

President Donald Trump is once again pushing back on Watergate reporter Bob Woodward's book, claiming the White House is a "smooth running machine" - a different synopsis than the turmoil and paranoia depicted in Woodward's book.

"Some of the things Trump did, and does, jeopardize the real national security", Woodward said. When I worked in Washington during the Bill Clinton years, senior members of the administration would talk anonymously with him out of their own sense of fear - fear that their views, their spin, their contribution to the Clinton presidency would not be valued properly and that some rival would get his or her message across more effectively.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a Trump ally, has said the president would be justified in using lie detectors to ferret out the anonymous writer.

Mattis was alarmed, telling close associates after the meeting that the President acted like - and had the understanding of - 'a fifth- or sixth-grader'.

Hamilton forecast calls for heavy rain starting Sunday
Some stronger, even severe storms are possible through Saturday evening as high winds and heavy rains would be the main threats. That storm, Tropical Storm Ike, produced four to six inches of rain over two-thirds of IL , which led to flash flooding.

Several prominent figures in the book have denied quotes that Woodward attributes to them.

In the interview, Woodward rejected criticism that his book relies entirely on unnamed sources and that insiders have claimed his reporting is inaccurate.

The Trump administration has been on an offensive in recent weeks, seeking to discredit Woodward and the contents of his book.

Trump's chief of staff, the retired general John Kelly, considers the president "unhinged", according to Woodward's "Fear", a 448-page account of an out-of-control White House set to hit bookshelves next week. And, quite frankly, if there was a person in the White House or in the administration who wanted to tell me what's in that op-ed piece I would say 'OK, name me who was there. Democrats can't stand losing.

"These people, these are political statements to protect their jobs, totally understandable", he said.

August labor report: 201,000 more jobs, and pay keeps pace
Hiring in the construction sector and in professional services helped the economy to add 201,000 jobs last month. Job gains in August were nearly across all sectors, though manufacturing payrolls fell by 3,000.

After waking up on Monday, the president tweeted a volley of attacks and denounced the award-winning journalist's reconstruction of scenes in which frustrated aides scramble to contain the president's impulses.

Later on during the interview, Woodward put Guthrie on the spot, when she questioned him about specific portions of his book.

For example, he said that the president imposing tariffs goes against what "99.9%" of experts have recommended.

Since excerpts were released last week, Trump has accused Woodward of making up quotes attributed to him and others.

The book also quotes Mattis, after a contentious National Security Council meeting on January 19, as saying Trump acted like and had the understanding of "a fifth or sixth-grader".

Trump Says He's Fit for Office, Citing Annual Physical Results
Trump's campaign rallies are often characterised by raucous interactions among supporters, Trump, and, sometimes, protesters. Perhaps oddest of all, though, was that several people standing behind Trump were replaced on camera as the evening went on.

The President also lashed out on Wednesday and dismissed the op-ed as "really a disgrace" and "gutless" and assailed the author and the Times for publishing the anonymous opinion piece. It's very important whether this is somebody who witnessed and participated.
