  • Leslie Moonves has been the chairman and CEO of CBS Corporation but has now resigned just hours after more sexual

Julie Chen did not appear on Monday's Season 9 premiere of "The Talk" on CBS the day after her husband, Leslie Moonves, was ousted as CEO-chairman of CBS Corp. Any severance to Moonves will depend on the results of CBS' internal investigation into the harassment allegations.

Moonves is still expected to collect millions of dollars as part of a settlement with the board, although the company said it will withhold any decision about payment until the investigation is complete.

In an article by the New Yorker's Ronan Farrow earlier in the summer six women accused Moonves of sexual misconduct.

Leslie Moonves, the powerful longtime chairman and chief executive of CBS, will resign his position in the wake of sexual assault allegations, concluding a whirlwind six weeks in which he fell from a perch as one of the country's most respected media titans. Of all the "Me Too" cases in the past year, this one stood out for several reasons, including the fact that Moonves is a powerful CEO of a major publicly-traded corporation. COO Joseph Ianniello was announced as president and acting CEO "while the Board conducts a search for a permanent successor".

The donation will be made immediately and deducted from any severance benefits that may be given to Moonves, the network added.

"Les Moonves should face justice for his crimes, not receive a payout to go away", the organization said in a statement.

11 a.m. update: Florence strengthens into hurricane
The three tropical systems - Florence, Isaac and Helene - come right before the Atlantic hurricane season hits its peak Monday. EDT, the Miami-based hurricane center said Florence's maximum sustained winds were estimated to be 65 miles per hour .

"But here's what I said back then and I think it still holds and I want to say it again: There is no excuse for this alleged behavior", O'Donnell said.

Moonves's departure had been on the cards, with United States media reporting in recent days that the terms of his departure had been under negotiation for weeks, and a deal had been expected before markets open Monday.

"In the event" the CBS board "determines that the company is entitled to terminate Mr. Moonves's employment for cause" - meaning that he's fired due to credible harassment claims - the $120 million will return to the company's coffers, according to the filing.

Moonves had opposed efforts by NAI, which is owned by Shari Redstone and her father Sumner Redstone, to merge CBS with Viacom Inc (VIAB.O), another company they own.

The organisation Time's Up, which fights accusations of sexual misconduct, said the women had made "bone-chilling" accusations against Mr Moonves.

On Sunday Moonves stepped down from the company he has led for 15 years, after the New Yorker published an article detailing new sexual harassment allegations against him. "I have never used my position to hinder the advancement or careers of women", Moonves said.

"In my 40 years of work, I have never before heard of such disturbing accusations", the 68-year-old continued.

Six new independent directors were named to the board, replacing five independent directors and one National Amusement-affiliated director. The new report brings the total number of women who have accused Moonves to 12.

The magazine on Sunday reported the on-the-record accounts of six women alleging that Moonves assaulted and harassed them, including by forcing oral sex, exposing himself without their consent, being physically violent and otherwise retaliating against them professionally when they rebuffed his advances.

Time's Up said the CBS board has a responsibility to rid the company of a toxic culture toward women. To CBS, she said, invoking Rosh Hashanah, "in the spirit of the new year, let's make this the beginning of a new era".
