  • Steve Yzerman stepping down as Lightning general manager

Julien BriseBois will take over as general manager after serving as assistant GM for eight years. If Yzerman wants to come home right now, they would be out of their mind not to let Holland go and bring Yzerman on board to get the team back on the right track.

In some of the most unexpected and shocking news in recent memory, Steve Yzerman is reportedly stepping down as the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he will be moving into an advisory role for the final year of his contract. Yzerman's family has remained in Detroit, and he commuted during his time on the job.

Dez Bryant expresses interest in playing for Redskins
Bryant said he wouldn't mind staying within the NFC East with the Redskins and said he's closing the book on the Cowboys for good. Bryant believes numerous Cowboys problems on offense would be solved if he and Bailey had been kept on the roster.

Yzerman was asked how long he'd be in this new role and possible future job changes.

That, coupled with Red Wings' GM Ken Holland inking a two-year extension last spring, will start the rumor mill that Yzerman could return to the organization where he spent all 22 seasons of his National Hockey League career.

August labor report: 201,000 more jobs, and pay keeps pace
Hiring in the construction sector and in professional services helped the economy to add 201,000 jobs last month. Job gains in August were nearly across all sectors, though manufacturing payrolls fell by 3,000.

Detroit Red Wings fans have been pining to see their former long-time captain Steve Yzerman return to the Detroit Red Wings and take over for the maligned Ken Holland as general manager for years now. But Holland signed a two-year extension with the Wings at the end of last season.

The Lightning reached the Eastern Conference Final in three of the past four seasons and reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2015. Detroit is in rebuilding mode, while Tampa Bay has become a perennial contender and will again be a championship favorite this season. Last season's team finished with 113 points and a first place finish in the Atlantic Division, but was ousted in the Eastern Conference finals by the Washington Capitals. He promoted Jon Cooper to head coach in 2013, re-signed captain Steven Stamkos and locked up defenceman Victor Hedman to a long-term deal in 2016. He has also held management roles with Hockey Canada. Yzerman is expected to stay in the organization as an advisor to the GM.

Tony Romo on how much the Ryder Cup means to Tiger Woods
Romo said that for Woods, the upcoming Ryder Cup is every bit as important as a major championship. It gave Woods an eight-under score and he a share of the lead with Rory McIlroy .

"We're going to play this year, and after that, I don't know", Yzerman said.
