Hugo Lloris has pleaded guilty to one charge of drink-driving after appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

An unmarked police vehicle had spotted Lloris - who captained Les Bleus to World Cup glory in Russian Federation on July 15 - as he drove his Porsche Panamera in the early hours, with prosecutor Henry Fitch claiming the player went through a red light before being stopped.

The Spurs goalkeeper provided a sample containing 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The incident occured when the Spurs stopper was pulled over for a routine check at 2.20am in Gloucester Park, after being spotted "veering his auto towards parked vehicles" and driving 15mph in a 30mph zone. They found vomit in the vehicle after stopping him.

"I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters".

When cops pulled him over, "Officers observed his speech was slurred, he was helped from the vehicle by an officer, he was unstable on his feet, and there was evidence of vomit at the scene".

"Drink-driving is completely unacceptable".

The magistrate said the fine represented the seriousness of the offence as well as the goalkeeper's financial means.

"He had booked a taxi but unfortunately the taxi cancelled at the last minute", Sonn said.

"On July 15, he was arguably the proudest man on the planet (having captained France to a World Cup triumph)", Sonn was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Forty days later, he was arrested in central London", said the lawer. "He made a first mistake - he chose to drive".

His club, for whom Lloris has made more than 200 league appearances since signing in 2012, also declined to comment.
